Things to know before you fish:

  • All Independence lakes and ponds are catch and release, unless limit signs are placed around the water.
  • Pick up your cut fishing line and place it in the trash or recycle it to protect wildlife.
  • Pack out what you pack in. Keep our parks and lakes clean for other anglers and our wildlife.
  • Use lead free tackle and sinkers. Lead is toxic to humans and wildlife.
  • Lower fish gently into the water instead of tossing them, which can shock or injure them.
  • Boats are not allowed on Independence lakes and ponds.
  • Don not release bait into our streams and lakes.
  • Cast from durable bank areas to prevent soil erosion.
  • Do not feed the geese and ducks around the water. It is unhealthy for wildlife.
  • A Missouri fishing license is required for those ages 16-64.
