A display has been created entitled "Trails Puppets and Dolls" highlighting handmade marionettes from "Lewis and Clark: A Dog's Eye View" puppet show, as well as additional puppets and dolls.

In this magnificent home you can view beautiful dolls sponsored by the Santa Fe Doll Club. Neil Foster, noted doll appraiser, will be available at the estate on Saturday, Sunday and Monday (for a $5.00 per item fee) to set a value on each doll.


Stop 3 - Chicago & Alton Depot (across the street, by the Trails Museum)

Built in 1879, the depot is believed to be the oldest two-story frame depot remaining in Missouri. It is filled with artifacts and memorabilia. Take this opportunity to enjoy additional historic dolls as well as trains.

Stop 4 - Lunch & Shopping on the Historic Independence Square

Enjoy lunch on the Historic Independence Square which once served as the rallying point for wagons heading west and many of Harry’s favorite haunts. Families can enjoy a sandwich or a full course meal in one of the several eateries on the square.

Stop 5 - Vaile Mansion

Built in 1881, this ornate 30 room mansion is one of the finest examples of Second Empire Victorian architecture in the country. View many historic dolls while admiring colorful ceiling paintings, crystal chandeliers and 9 marble fireplaces.

The Puppetry Arts Institute will present an original show, "The Dolls Puppet Show – Little Red Riding Hood", at 11 a.m. & 2 p.m. on Saturday and Monday. The $5 per person ticket includes exhibits and a finger puppet.

National Frontier Trails Museum Special Workshops

On Saturday, the museum is offering a special workshop on doll quilt making to be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. the museum will show a movie, "The Queen's Dollhouse", free with regular admission. Monday at 10 a.m., the museum will also offer a popular workshop on corn husk doll making.

On Monday, President's Day, the Harry S. Truman Library and Museum, will offer a sample of "Presidential" cookies, and an opportunity to meet President Truman from 10:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Enjoy the special exhibit "School House to White House: The Education of the Presidents". (Free with regular museum admission, $8.00 for adults, $7.00 for Seniors, $3 ages 6-18).
