Independence Bicycle Rodeo
Each year on the first Saturday of May, the Independence Police Department, Independence Parks and Recreation, and the Independence Neighborhood Watch Association, join forces in creating a special place where children can learn the benefits of how to safely operate a bicycle.
This event, while orientated towards children, is very important for both young and old. It teaches kids the important parts of bicycle safety, but also gives parents a better understanding of what dangers are out there for their kids.
In addition to the bicycle rodeo, there is also a demonstration of various public safety units within the city. This year, it included a fire truck, ambulance, K-9 unit, police bearcat, and the KCPD police helicopter.
As this event continues to grow, expect to see more and more each year. For information on this event, contact Officer Syme at jsyme@indepmo.org.
