Adoption Fees for all canines are $95.00

By cooperative agreement with local veterinarians, animals adopted from the Independence Animal Shelter--will have the following services performed:

  • Veterinarian will make sure animal is altered
  • Rabies Vaccination, as required by law
  • Age Appropriate Shots
  • Worming for Round Worms
  • Preliminary Physical
  • Heartworm testing as required
  • Micro-chipping

HEARTWORMS Once the adopted dog is tested for Heartworms it is strongly advised that heartworm preventive medication be started. We have had several test positive in the last couple of years in our area and it is very expensive to treat once they are infected. Mosquitos are the carriers for this illness.

Please note: Our vaccinations do not have Corona in them and your veterinarian may suggest that you vaccinate against those viruses.

Adoption fees for all Cats - $85.00

  • Veterinarian will make sure animal is altered
  • Rabies Vaccination, as required by law
  • Age Appropriate Shots
  • Worming for Round Worms
  • Preliminary Physical
  • Feline Leukemia and FIV Testing as required.
  • Micro-chipping
  • Feline Leukemia Fee is Reduced by Half:
A disease that is highly contagious to other cats, not treatable and is fatal. If the cat tests positive it will be returned to the Shelter and the adopter may select another cat/kitten. Once the cat is tested for Feline Leukemia it is wise to have him vaccinated against the disease. There is no cure for feline leukemia. Ask your veterinarian about this disease.

All adopted animals will require a series of vaccinations after they go home. Adult dogs and cats should receive a second Distemper "combo" booster vaccination two weeks after they were vaccinated at the Shelter. Ask your vet about these.

Always keep a current Rabies Tag on your dog or cat. If they lose the tag your veterinarian will replace it usually for a minimal fee. A rabies tag has your veterinarian's clinic and phone number on it which enables someone finding your pet to track you down through your veterinarian's records.

Dogs and Cats can now be Spayed when in heat. Ask your veterinarian for more information.
