Volunteer at Independence Animal Services

Are you interested in helping homeless, unwanted and abused animals? Independence Animal Services has many volunteer opportunities available to anyone that would like to help animals at the shelter and in our community. Whether you want to volunteer with the dogs and/or cats, in the office, at special events or even volunteer from home, we have an opportunity just for you! You can make a difference!

We are currently looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are willing to put their energy into the lives of the animals that walk through our door. Come on down and share some love!

Check out our Volunteer Opportunities. The process of applying to become a volunteer is easy; just sign up here for Volunteer Orientation and you are on your way! After you have signed up for volunteer orientation, download and print the Volunteer Agreement and Code of Ethics form. Read and complete the form and bring it to the orientation. These forms must be on file at the shelter before you can volunteer.

Court Ordered Community Service

If you have been ordered by the courts to complete community service hours, Independence Animal Services has a program that allows you to get your hours while you are helping the animals at the shelter.  Sign up for Community Service Orientation.

Feline Foster Program

Independence Animal Services provides care to thousands of cats and kittens each year. Many of the kittens are too young to be adopted at the time that they come into the shelter and need to be sent to a Foster Family for temporary care until they are old enough to be returned to the shelter for adoption. If you are interested in more information, read the Feline Foster Care Manual.

After reading the Feline Foster Care Manual, if you are interested in becoming a foster parent, complete the Feline Foster Parent Application. Your application will be reviewed and you will be contacted for an interview. Potential Foster Parents will be required to attend a Feline Fostering Orientation and Cats 101 before they take home a foster baby(s). Foster families are responsible for saving hundreds of precious lives throughout the year. This is truly a rewarding experience!
