Bones for Buster Program
Bones for Buster is a program designed to help senior citizens feed their companion pets. Animal Services has partnered with the Palmer Center to identify seniors who need help feeding their pets. For this program to continue, donations of dog and cat food (both dry and canned) and cat litter are needed. All donations should be brought to the Independence Animal Shelter.

Reading to Animals Program (RAP)
Our mission is two-fold; to provide an enrichment program for the animals during their stay at the Animal Shelter and to help the children in our community improve their reading skills. We understand that many children have a difficult time reading out loud in front of a classroom where they may fear teasing or bullying from their classmates. With RAP,we hope to give the child a safe place to practice their reading skills at the Animal Shelter.

The City of Independence and Animal Services believe in giving back to our community. Children who read books in increments of 25 will be given incentives to continue reading. We are seeking assistance in providing these incentives to the children and to provide books. To receive more information on this program, call the Shelter at 325-7207.
