Councilmember John Perkins was first elected as the Independence First District City Councilmember in April 2016 and most recently re-elected in 2020.  He was previously elected and served as the Second District City Councilmember from 1996-2004.   

Councilmember Perkins currently serves on the Independence Audit and Finance Committee.  He is also a Board member of the Northwest Community Development Corporation/Fairmount Community Center.   

Councilmember Perkins is a lifelong resident of Independence.  He is a 1991 graduate of William Chrisman High School, and he went on to earn Bachelor of Science degrees in both History and Political Science from the University of Central Missouri (previously Central Missouri State University). 

Councilmember Perkins serves as an Assistant Meat Manager for a regional grocery store where he has worked for 24 years. Councilmember Perkins resides in Northern Independence with his wife and family.
