Fire Prevention

The Fire Prevention Bureau provides for the inspection of all new businesses within
the City, Fire Code enforcement, building plans review, fire safety education, fire
investigation, Burning Permits and the re-inspection of all violations found during
company inspections. Beyond Fire Code Enforcement, the Bureau provides Public Education,
Juvenile Firesetters Intervention, Computer/Media Services and the Coordination
of Fire Communications. The division maintains all alarm records and reports, develops
statistical data, and publishes the Annual Report. This division employs one Administrative
Specialist II, five Fire Inspectors, and one Chief Fire Inspector/Fire Marshal.
During the 2006, the Fire Prevention Division completed a total of 6,623 commercial
inspections, 452 Plan Reviews/Zoning Projects, had an audience for Community Education
of 18,502, and distributed 115 Smoke Detectors.
