Chief Fire Inspector: Gene Gould

The Fire Prevention Division provides oversight and support for the inspection of all new and existing business, code enforcement, building plan review, fire safety/emergency preparedness education and fire investigation. Other services include issuing fire department permits, juvenile firesetter intervention, computer/media services, fire dispatch communications, record management systems and statistical analysis. The Fire Prevention Division employs an administrative specialist II, five inspectors, and the Chief Fire Inspector/Fire Marshal.

History of Chief Gene Gould

Chief Gould joined the Independence Fire Department in 2007 after serving 25 years in Blue Springs, Missouri with the Central Jackson County Fire Protection District. During his career at C.J.C.F.P.D Gould attained the rank of assistant chief that included supervisory duties in the Fire Prevention and Fire Operations Divisions respectively. Chief Gould has been a chief officer since 1991 and has served on many professional boards and commmittees locally and at a state level.

Chief Gould has completed undergraduate course work in Business and Fire Science Technology and has attained Executive Fire Officer designation through the National Fire Academy. Gould holds several professional and State of Missouri fire and emergency medical service qualifications.

Chief Gould has been employed within the private sector as a fire investigator with the nationally recognized investigative firm "Clarence M. Kelly and Associates" and has extensive experience in public and private insurance related fire origin and cause determination and case management.
