Where to File Various Complaints

Water Problems in Independence Mo.
If you are moving in or out, or if you have a billing inquiry, call or visit the Utilities Customer Service Center at 11610 E. Truman Road (Truman & Forest) 325-7930.

For emergency service, to report a water leak in the street, or to report any kind of problem with the city's water service during business hours, call water maintenance at 325-7658. After hours call 325-7640.

If you have problems with sanitary sewer lines during business hours call Sewer Maintenance at 325-7727. For emergencies, after hours, contact the Police Department at 325-7300.

Trash Pickup Complaints
To register a complaint about trash pickup in Independence, Mo., contact the License Division at 325-7078, or visit the office at City Hall. Trash haulers are not allowed to make collections prior to 6:00 a.m.

The traffic signs division of the Public Works Department replaces and repairs signs such as stop, yield, speed limit, warning, parking regulation, and street name signs. Essential signs are handled as emergencies and are usually replaced within 24 hours. These include stop, yield, do not enter, one way, detour, and school crossings.

The Power & Light Department repairs most traffic signals on city streets. Some traffic signals at intersections of state highways and city streets are the responsibility of the Missouri Highway & Transportation Department, phone 889-3350.

To report a power outage in your home, contact the Power & Light trouble reporting line.

You can help the maintenance process by giving the nearest street address of the light and a description of the problem such as: lights out, cycling on and off, remaining on during daylight hours or other physical damage. Be certain to mention conditions where wires are down or exposed. Always stay clear of broken poles or tree limbs in contact with electrical systems.

Sidewalk Problems
To report a dangerous sidewalk, call 325-7781. The city's Public Works Department will verify the hazard, and if the sidewalk is dangerous, the property owner will be required to repair it.
