Great Northwest Independence Neighborhood Initiative
Blog

What is it?

The Great Northwest Independence Neighborhood Initiative or "Initiative" is a process whereby residents can:

  • Create a vision for their neighborhood.
  • Ensure that these neighborhoods are great places to live, work and raise a family.

Initiative Goals

The project will result in the Great Northwest Independence Neighborhood Strategic Plan that will outline short term action steps for investment in this area.

Residents will create short-term action steps that will include goals and objectives for implementation.

Objectives will also review available resources to ensure long term sustainability and future investment.

Wrap-Up Meeting a Success!
Monday, March 24, 2008 11:08 AM

Everyone:

The Wrap-up Meeting held on March 20th at Maywood Baptist Church was a great success!  There were over 50 residents in attendance as First District Councilmember, Marcie Gragg and the City Manager- Robert Heacock reviewed the Executive Summary of the Action Plans, and reviewed common District-wide priorities.  Each of the common priorities will be reviewed to determine which are best developed through each Group, or which should be developed on a District wide basis.  For these next steps, the GNWINI Advisory Team will play a crucial role as these priorities are reviewed, and the Groups will discuss and assess the various Action Steps that were developed.   It was very encouraging to see the number of residents that were in attendance at the Wrap-up meeting.   Also- the Executive Summary should be posted within a few days on this site.

As we schedule follow-up meetings, I will continue to post updates.  Also- I encourage you to contact me with questions, or please provide comments on your thoughts about the GNWINI process.

Thanks for your participation in this effort!

As part of the Action Steps for Groups One through Five was the creation of a Great Northwest Independence Neighborhood Initiative Advisory Team composed of three residents from each group that will meet with key City staff including Department Directors, and City Management staff to oversee the implementation of the Initiative. This first meeting has been scheduled for January 17th. This group will roll up their sleeves, and begin the facilitation of the Action Steps for the implementation of this important project. It truly is an exciting time for western Independence.
