The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) was enacted by the 111th United States Congress signed into law by President Barack Obama in February 2009, makes supplemental appropriations available from the Federal government to states, cities, non-profits and other agencies and organizations. This Web site will provide information about funding awarded to the City of Independence and how it is being used. Like the Federal Web site, and the State of Missouri site, this page will be frequently updated to provide the latest information about stimulus funding in Independence.
How much funding will the City receive? The City of Independence may receive funds through three channels: direct formula funding from the Federal government, competitive grants from the Federal government, and competitive grants from the State of Missouri, which is also distributing funds received from the ARRA.
How will the City use the funding? The City has received notice of award for specific projects in the following areas: Public Works, Community Development, Energy Efficiency and Conservation, and Public Safety. Other grants have applied for, but word has not been received that they have been approved. In addition, some funding is for one-time expenditures/projects and may not be paid to the City until a project is completed.
