One of the fundamental goals of the Independence Police Department is to educate the citizens of Independence on crime prevention. It stands to reason that the more education one has on how to avoid becoming a victim of a crime, the less likely they are to become a victim of a crime.

During the monthly captain meetings, often presentations are given on how to not only make you feel safer, but be safer while at home, and while away.
