Healthy Neighborhoods Project
The Independence Health Department would like to learn what barriers exist for residents to access fresh fruits and vegetables and participate in physical activity. Healthy neighborhoods help to build strong relationships. People working together in their neighborhoods can increase their home values and create standards for improvement. Healthy neighborhoods can market a community.
In October 2010, the Independence Health Department surveyed four intentional neighborhoods to gather data identifying barriers in physical activity and access to fruits and vegetables. The results of this survey are being used to support health initiatives for adults and children through promotion of active living and health eating.
The Health Department continues to promote healthy lifestyles through support and educational programs. For more information on how to add your neighborhood to our Website, contact the Health Promotion Division at 816-325-7185.
