Boards & Commissions
The Planning Commission is comprised of seven members, including the Chairperson, appointed by the Mayor for four (4) year terms. The Planning Commission makes recommendations to the City Council on development proposals and conducts public hearings on a variety of issues. The Commission meets twice each month in the City Council Chambers located on the lower level of City Hall at 111 E Maple Ave, Independence, Missouri. The meetings are also aired on City 7, the City’s Public Access television station. Information on Agendas and Minutes for the Planning Commission are noted below.
The Board of Adjustment is comprised of five members, including the Chairperson and is appointed by the Mayor for three year terms. The Board of Adjustment makes exceptions from the required standards of the Zoning Code for physical hardship reasons. The Board of Adjustment meets once per month in the City Council Chambers located on the lower level of City Hall at 111 E Maple Ave, Independence, Missouri. The meetings are also aired on City 7, the City’s Public Access television station. Information on Agendas and Minutes for the Board of Adjustment are noted below.

When this occurs, their Agendas and Minutes will be included on this webpage. The groups may include the Tax Increment Financing Commission, the License Surcharge Committee along with other groups.
